Yuk Ching Charity Trust donated for two eye cataract operation projects for the poor and elderly in Mui Yuan and Qing Yuan, Guangdong in 2008.

Yuk Ching Charity Trust has recently provided financial support to training at the Guangzhou Eye Centre one eye doctor and two nurses of the Qujiang Peoples' Hospital in Shaoguan, Guangdong Province.

The Trust is now in the process of purchasing 1) AMO Sovereign Compact Cataract Extraction System and Accessories – manufactured by U.S. Advanced Medical Optics, Inc., and 2) Carl Zeiss Ophthalmic Operating Microscope – OPMI Visu 140/S7 System and Accessories – manufactured by Zeiss, Germany. The two equipment will be donated to the Qujiang Peoples' Hospital for eye cataract operations under a Memorandum of Understanding that the hospital will provide for a period of 5 years free medical checkup, food and accommodation for 1,000 poor and elderly patients requiring eye cataract operations. The Trust will donate to the Hospital for each patient's eye cataract operation. And additional medical personnel will be trained in due course.

The purpose of donating eye cataract operation equipment and training medical personnel is to enable the Hospital to have up-to-date medical technologies and skills to perform eye cataract operations for the poor and elderly patients on a long term basis.

It is expected that the equipment will be installed and operative in the Qujiang Peoples' Hospital before the end of 2009.

The Trust signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the hospital authority and Communist Youth League at the Qujiang Peoples' Hospital, Shaoguan on 30 May 2009.
