【Hope Vision Project】Qing Yuan Dong Shan Eye Project

On Saturday, 11 Oct 08, the Trust visited the Dong Shan Eye Clinic to learn at first hand the eye operations and to interact with the patients and volunteers. We had conversations with the patients, local and Hong Kong volunteers as well as had lunch with them that day.

The Eye Clinic is located in a spacious 3-storey building which provides ample rooms for patient registration, eye checks and eye surgery, patients and volunteers accommodation, as well as toilet, kitchen and canteen facilities. The clinic worked with a local hospital to arrange medical eye / body examinations for the patients.

We also visited the nearby Dong Shan Primary School and library supported by "Green Action" and had a wonderful time with the children taking photos and distributing snacks to them.

Despite a hectic schedule, we were happy and encouraged to learn that at the end 116 poor elderly patients regained their eye sights, with the knowledge that they will be able once again to share with their families the beauty of their surroundings and in some cases be able to assist in their chores.

The Trust will continue to provide free eye cataract operations for poor elderly patients in Mainland China, and is in fact sponsoring specialist training for medical doctor in Shaoguan in this field for the future.
