Shaoguan Charity Walk 2025

Since 1997, when they first began charitable activities in Qujiang District, Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province, the Yuk Ching Charity Trust ("Yuk Ching") and Crystal International Group Limited ("Crystal") have never ceased their philanthropic projects in the region over the past 28 years. Starting with the construction of Hope Project schools and donations of educational facilities, their initiatives have expanded to include scholarship programs for universities, secondary, and primary schools, free cataract surgeries, donations of medical equipment, environmental tree-planting, and more. Over the years, the number of beneficiaries has been countless.

On March 29 to 30, 2025, Crystal International Group Limited ("Crystal"), including Chairman Mr. Kenneth LO, CEO Mr. Andrew LO, and other management members, along with Yuk Ching Charity Trust ("Yuk Ching") Chairman Mrs. Yvonne LO, Trustees Mrs. Irene LO, Mrs. Selina LO and Mr. Tony LAI, and Secretary of Crystal Climate Charity Foundation("CCCF"), Mr. Edmund NG, joined over 250 colleagues from CMZS, ZSYD, DCKG, YJ and the Hong Kong Headquarter, 100 teachers and students from Shunde Luodingbang Middle School, and over 60 local officials and Qujiang District volunteers—totalling more than 410 participants—for the Shaoguan Charity Walk 2025.

The activities included, a community tree-planting event on March 29, 2025, in Liukeng Village, Zhangshi Town, Qujiang District. And a scholarship award ceremony at Qujiang Middle School, student interaction sessions, and a visit to Qujiang District People’s Hospital, which oversees the "Hope Vision Project", to meet with beneficiaries of the cataract surgery program on March 30.

Community Tree Planting

The inaugural event of the "Shaoguan Charity Walk" was Crystal's 2025 Shaoguan Community Tree-Planting Activity. A total of around 410 volunteers gathered in the lush green fields and rolling hills of Zhangshi Town, Qujiang District, Shaoguan. With their hands as brushes and saplings as ink, they collectively painted a verdant masterpiece across the land.

Despite the sudden drop in temperature and a persistent drizzle, the volunteers remained full of enthusiasm and smiles. Clad in matching raincoats and armed with shovels, they formed orderly lines as they trekked uphill, creating a striking and heartwarming sight against the crisp spring chill. This year, they planted ma bamboo—once fully grown, this bamboo forest will sequester over 1,000 tons of carbon annually, while its bamboo shoot yield will also benefit local villagers, embodying the principle of "ecological priority, green win-win."

Looking ahead, green and low-carbon development has become a global trend and a core pillar of Crystal’s corporate social responsibility strategy.

Since 2007, Crystal has made eco-conscious sustainability a key part of its development philosophy, promoting ecological tree-planting initiatives across its global operations for 18 years. Over the years, Yuk Ching has supported Crystal in implementing afforestation projects in Qujiang District, Shaoguan, and other provinces, covering an impressive 3,700 mu—an encouraging achievement.

With the strong support and enthusiastic participation of all involved, the 2025 Crystal Public Tree-Planting Activity concluded successfully. For years, Crystal has been walking the talk in advancing green development through tangible actions, taking firm strides toward sustainable development goals. We look forward to more partners joining Crystal’s "2050 Net-Zero Vision" to accelerate progress toward global carbon reduction targets!

Hope Vision Project (Free Cataract Surgery)

Cataracts stand as the world's leading cause of blindness, and China faces one of the most severe challenges with vision impairment. In the rural areas of Shaoguan, many impoverished cataract patients have historically been forced to delay treatment due to financial difficulties. Recognizing this critical need, Yuk Ching initiated the "Hope Vision Project" in 2009 through collaboration with the Communist Youth League Qujiang District Committee, Qujiang District Health Bureau, Qujiang District People's Hospital, and Qujiang District Volunteers Association.

For seventeen consecutive years, this project has provided fully funded sight-restoring surgeries to underprivileged rural patients, bringing the gift of vision to over 3,700 individuals. Now in 2025, the program is implementing its fourth five-year plan, with the ambitious goal of performing no fewer than 310 surgeries annually, ensuring even more patients and their families can benefit from this life-changing initiative.

On the morning of March 30, representatives from Crystal and Yuk Ching visited Qujiang District People's Hospital, the primary institution carrying out the "Hope Vision Project." They expressed heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff for their unwavering dedication and held a special appreciation ceremony to acknowledge the hospital's efforts. During the ceremony, hospital administrators reviewed the project's progress over the past year and extended their thanks to Yuk Ching for its enduring support, which has transformed the lives of countless impoverished patients in Qujiang District.

Following the ceremony, a delegation from local authority accompanied the visiting guests on a ward round to meet with recovering patients. The wards were filled with unforgettable smiles as patients, overjoyed at regaining their sight, eagerly shared their stories with the visitors. The guests took time to personally inquire about each patient's recovery and presented them with insulated tumblers and red envelopes as tokens of care and blessings.

This deeply moving experience underscored how the restoration of vision brings not just physical sight but also renewed hope and brighter futures for entire families. Through the "Hope Vision Project," Yuk Ching and Crystal continue to make a profound difference, one patient at a time.

Mainland China Scholarship / Subsidy Project

On the morning of March 30, the Scholarship Award Ceremony was held at Qujiang Middle School. This annual event serves as a recognition of the hard work and dedication of the sponsored students, encouraging them to pursue academic excellence and transform their futures through education.

Despite the large number of recipients each year, representatives from Crystal") and Yuk Ching took the time to personally encourage each student and present their scholarship certificates. The gratitude on the faces of every awardee was evident, reflecting the profound impact of this support.

Since 1997, when Crystal and Yuk Ching first contributed to the "Hope Project" by building schools, their commitment to educational development in Shaoguan has remained unwavering. Over the past 28 years, their scholarship program has provided financial assistance to high-achieving students from underprivileged families in Qujiang and Zhenjiang Districts. In the 2024/25 academic year alone, 299 students received scholarships.

Following the ceremony, in addition to a group photo session, a sharing and discussion segment was held. Each guest engaged with a small group of students, listening to their academic challenges and daily struggles. Drawing from their own life experiences, the guests offered valuable advice and practical guidance, providing the students with new perspectives and inspiration for their journeys ahead.

This meaningful exchange not only strengthened bonds but also empowered the students with real-world insights, helping them navigate their educational and personal growth with greater confidence.
